Google today introduced a new tool add on to its search engine which notifies you if a site has been compromised or not. The new tool called Google Hacked site notifications show up on the search results warning users if the site has been hacked. It also allows users to verify if a site is hacked.

Google had been focussed a lot on security of its search results. Google already detects and warns users regarding to ad infected malware sites. After the recent hack attempts of Wikileaks and other sites, Google seems to havethought that this new feature will not only protect naive users but also will boost its image as a safe and secure search engine.

Any website that has been compromised or was altered by a third party will be listed in Google Hacked Site Notifications and Google will warn and prevent users from visiting that site.

Google today said :

Today we’ve added a new notification to our search results that helps people know when a site may have been hacked. We’ve provided notices for malware for years, which also involve a separate warning page. Now we’re expanding the search results notifications to help people avoid sites that may have been compromised and altered by a third party, typically for spam. When a user visits a site, we want her to be confident the information on that site comes from the original publisher.

Google will throw in a “this site may be compromised” link which will redirect users to an article in Google’s help center. The search engine looks for common signs of a hacked sites and will also attempt to contact the affected website.

Google also actively looks for the site security to be fixed which when done, it will remove the hacked site notification from that site.
