Yes the iPad is here and the first release day went well for it. Huge lines greeted the iPad but they thinned out later. Walstreet Journal reports that at some stores there were no lines at all.
Gene Munster, an analyst from Piper Jaffary, an investment firm estimates a sale of about 700,000 iPad’s on the first day. Not a bad start considering the hype for the $500 1Ghz processor touch pad!
The present estimate surpasses an initial estimate of 200,000 to 300,00 units. Walstreet Journal had claimed that despite the longer lines and huge crowds many Apple stores still had many iPad’s yet to sell. iPad’s sold on much hype but as the day progressed the lines disappeared while some stores did not have lines at all. For instance the Apple store in San Antonio had no lines and a decent crowd that was well received and remained inside the store.
Dallas had a similar trend with the crowds at the popular Northpark Mall. While some showed up early to the store by about 11 AM the lines disappeared.
On Monday, April 5th, Apple has officially released a press statement reporting that over 300,000 iPads were sold on the first day – not bad, but Apple seems to be playing safe with the numbers and not reporting an exact number.
