Roku last week announced a new line of streaming set-top boxes and this time Roku will include Hulu Plus subscription content in it. The new boxes will ship this fall. Hulu Plus subscribers will be able to get 720 HD content on their television sets with the roku set-top boxes. Roku also is offering content providers an SDK to create custom channels to let users access content.
Hulu and Roku in a joint statement said, “We are excited to bring Hulu Plus to all Roku users. With Hulu Plus on Roku, TV fans will have an easy way to stream to their TVs the shows they love, whenever they want.”
TV shows featured on Hulu Plus include full seasons of current hits like Modern Family, Grey’s Anatomy, Glee, Family Guy, The Office and 30 Rock, as well as classics like The X-Files, Law and Order: SVU, Arrested Development, Saturday Night Live, Miami Vice, Ugly Betty, Quantum Leap, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Ally McBeal.
Hulu Plus is currently offered only on a limited number of Samsung TVs and Blu-ray players. It is also included in the Xbox 360 console and newer iOS devices.
