We had reported this earlier and the rumor is true. Something that you won’t see often! Cisco Systems is launching a tablet computing device aimed at business customers and has officially entered the tablet market. The new tablet called Cius, was unveiled today. Cius is a 7 inch tablet and is based on Google’s Android operating system.
Cisco says that Cius will work both over short-range WiFi and high-speed mobile wireless networks and is a collaboration and communication device for enterprises. The Cius has just what the businesses need. Portable Video conferencing, access to a users’ desktop computer, email messaging and web browsing and also supports the applications designed for the Android platform.
The company said that it plans to start shipping the Cius tablet in 2011. The tablet wieghs around 1.15 pounds and there is no word on pricing yet.
Technical features of the tablet include 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, 3G and 4G mobile broadband, Bluetooth 3.0 and Ethernet connectivity. Loaded with a virtual desktop client for accessing cloud-based apps.
Cius is said to have upto 8 hours of battery life from a user replaceable battery. It is also suspected that its network performance might work with more efficiency when coupled with cisco devices, how true we are yet to confirm.
