Looks like even the critical software at Pentagon are not only terribly expensive but are also more than a decade old. The Pentagon, after almost 12 years of delays, has bought itself a softare suit for $6.9 billion over budget, twice as much as it was originally quoted. The nine software systems that were bought are all not up-to-date. Six of the nine are over a decade late.
The news was revealed by the US Government’s Accountability office which took a serious note of Pentagon and its Inspector General for the failure to deliver projects on time and consisted with its quoted costs. The office also reported that the US Army was six years late on another project that was estimated to be $2.6 billion.
Much of the software that was being bought is actually to manage and improve financial management. The software will automate accounting and payroll in Pentagon. The whole deal is a huge loss considering the return on investment.
