Samsung today has announced production of miniSATA solid state disk (SSD) drives. These SSD’s are really small and ultra thin measuring at 3.8mm and 8g. These ultra thin and light drives are designed for use in devices like Ultrabook laptops. They will be available in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB capacities with a 32GB version for caching purposes.

Myungho Kim, VP of memory marketing at Samsung said, “Samsung’s compact mSATA SSDs will provide performance of the highest quality in helping to deliver the advanced ultra-slim PCs that consumers have been wanting, Samsung plans to continue providing timely delivery of advanced SSD solutions, while preserving its leadership position in the SSD market for notebook PCs.”

Along with the 6Gbits/s SATA interface, Samsung is touting the “industry’s highest sequential read and write speeds” of 500MB/s and 260MB/s, respectively. With such high speeds, these SSD’s can get your system booted in less than 10 seconds.
