Today it is being reported that Skype was buying GroupMe texting service. This has created buzz that Skype might be using this to integrate it with the Microsoft Windows phone.

For GroupMe investors, this is their liquidity event when markets and economies are as uncertain in the long term as they are volatile day by day. For GroupMe management, they get Microskype marketing power and future replacement of Twilio SMS backend with a cheaper Skype texting/voice/video backend

Skype is a communications company but with this move are changing to be more productive. With Skype willing to compete as a platform might affect the end user because this will allow Skype to have more control on its users.
