Clearwire and Sprint today reported that they will be launching their 4G mobile Internet in Los Angeles later this year. Official launch dates were set for their WiMax services with New York the first to see the service on November 1 followed by Los Angeles on December 1 and San Francisco by the end of December.
Although Sprint owns 55 percent of Clearwire, the two companies will be launching separate brands of 4G service. Sprint will be offering the service over Clearwire’s network. Sprint claims its new Sprint 4G will allow customers to download large files or use fast broadband services to watch online videos.
A range of WiMax devices are being offered that include USB modems and Intel embedded laptops and netbooks.
