Apple on Monday said that it has sold a whopping 1.7 million iPhone 4 phones since its release. This marks the mostiphone4 successful launch of Apple yet. The phone is a newer version of its series of iPhone’s that it has launched and worked on recently.

The number seems too low when compared to about 70 million iPhones being used around the world. Steve Jobs in a statement today apologised to the customers who were turned away due to less supply of the phones. He was also quoted saying that “This is the most successful product launch in Apple’s history”.

Apple did not report on if these figures include pre-orders made on the company’s website. iPhone 4 did have its share of problems with the recent antenna issue that was reported by many users. This however did not prevent users from ordering the iPhone 4.

iPhone 4 comes to the US with AT&T as its exclusive provider.

Research firm Piper Jaffray found from a research that 77 percent of first day iPhone 4 customers were repeat customers. There are more than 70 million iPhone’s circulating around the world and 1.7 million sold seems like a little less however its a great start!
