Miss the good old arcade games, the ones that you popped a quarter into and played using an atari stick? Well looks like thanks to iPad and a bunch of geniuses we can experience that yet again.
Introducing the iCade, the new iPad Arcade!
Offered by thinkgeek, measuring about 9″ wide x 10″ deep x 16″ high, the iCade lets you slide in your iPad into a desktop-sized arcade cabinet and lets you load and play games such as pac-man or space invaders. Pretty geeky eh?
All you have to do is slide in your iPad into the iCade’s docking cradle. The docking cradle uses a standard 30 pin connector which will then connect or link your iPad to the arcade controls.
The iCade app is available on the App store on April 3rd, which is loaded on to the iPad. The app reportedly contains many classic games. The cradle also comes with a power adapter which can constantly charge the iPad while you are busy gaming!
The design of the iCade is impressive with its handcrafted wooden tabletop arcade cabinet, hundreds of games can be downloaded from the app store, professional grade arcade stick and microswitch buttons rated for 10,000,000 uses, has the ability for two players to play with 2.1 dolby speakers and a subwoofer in the cabinet.
The iPad app is needed to be able to talk to the iCade controls which will be available soon.
What are you waiting for? Put your gaming hats on and order one here. It is set to sell at about $150.00. Makes me wonder if I can stick in my iPhone?
Well as we all know it, this was an april fools joke but this lead a lot of people to think, is this the future of the iPad?
